LIBERTY OF THE SEAS

DISCOVERING THE SHIP - FEBRUARY 2009

"DECK TEN - The large cruise ships are like small towns. During this cruise, the Liberty of the Seas, then the World's largest passenger ship, had almost five thousand five hundred people on board... But it seems that the new Oasis of the Seas accommodates seven thousand and five hundred people between passengers and crew!"

"DISCOVERING THE SHIP - Outside: pools, surf and the Wall..."

"DISCOVERING THE SHIP - Inside: model, stateroom 1544, Royal Promenade, barber, bars, shops and Morgan..."

"ROYAL PROMENADE - Roughly two hundred metres of duty-free shops and bars, as well as three floors of inside cabins..."

"DISCOVERING THE SHIP - Inside (II): Lifts, verandas, Promenade, main restaurant and the pool at night (outside...)"

"STROLLING AROUND - The Windjammer Cafe, Fitness Centre, cantilever Jacuzzi, pool Jaccuzzis, the Wall, Pool bar at night, other bars and ... restaurant staff!
Never lost: the day of the week at the lift carpet and where we are at the TV map..."

"ART SHOW - Displayed on the walls or at the Art Auction sessions..."

"PROMENADE SHOW"

"SHIP ENTERTAINMENT - Duo, the Band, Ramon de la Cruz (guitar), Pirates' Parade and pool dance..."

Hi Everybody! Things have been hard this early 2010 and blogosphere is a space that doesn’t get so much attention as I would like... Anyhow, a new post has seen the light of the day and brings us to the full joy of cruising... Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!!

WOW! All I can say is WOW! This is a HUGE ship! I've never been on a cruise, but I have friends and family members who have, and their photos of their ships don't look this BIG!

Gil, I hope things are better for you and yours!

Tell me something, do you even realize, once you board a ship that is that big, that you are on a ship at all? Just wondering. Do you feel the sea? :) Fabulous photos.

Thérèse said...

What a cruise ship! I would be scared to come aboard...
Great for a extended family reunion!

As you say it is a floating city. It is not my idea of travelling but I wouldn't mind experiencing it for a short time. You must have been busy running around getting all those different shots. Great night shots. Do you use a tripod?

On ne me fera pas monter à bord! Non! Vive le calme et la tranquillité!

Some of these cruisers are made in Finland, perhaps this was one of them :)
It looks a perfect place for luxury days and idling ;)

Nice weekend to you and your wife!

Neelima Vallangi said...

All that in a ship? Are you sure you were not in some city or something like that??!!
Wow! It's nothing less than a floating city.. but i guess that's another kind of travel.. different from my kind of travel..but travel nevertheless.. :)
Have a great weekend!

Reminds me so much our cruise, our ship was a little smaller only 3000 people, but the decoration was also very beautiful.

Emery Roth said...

5000 people hardly seems like a quiet get-away, but I suppose that's not the point. So, did you climb the rock wall? In a ship like this does it matter where it takes you?

What fun!

That looks like a very fun cruise.

I can confirm (Leena above) that it was built in Finland, like its sister ships! They are amazing!

However, I don't think I would join; prefer travel on smaller ships, more particularly on cargo vessels!

Sure is impressive!!!
Why would anyone want to leave this place? lol

Hello Gil! Fantastic photos of the ship! It's really a floating city, and the cruise looks so funny! I like very much the beautiful collages as well.

Florida was indeed photos galore. I can imagine your camera went snap, snap non stop. All those art deco buildings ... beautiful.
I've seen this cruise ship on Discovery Ch, omg it's HUGE! And your photos further confirmed it. Must be great fun. I like your new page layout. But your pics in the old format were much clearer. I enjoyed it the same. Hv a great week.

Gil it all looks fantastic! That is a giant ship! I want to see some food photos next blog post as I can imagine the food displays are unbelievable.

My husband and I only cruised once, for a special anniversary..we were on the Queen Mary 2 during her maiden year for a New England and Canada trip. It was so wonderful! We hope to take more cruises when my husband retires in a few years.

I haven't been on the Liberty and I can't remember if I told you that I made the top one hundred finalists for Godmother of that ship. As such, I was inivited, along with the other godmother candidates and a number of top cruisers, for a free weekend aboard the Majesty for a relaunch after their "revitalization" right before the Liberty came out. It was such fun as all the RCI brass were on board and all the drinks were complimentary. I just did a weekend on the Oasis, preinaugural, in November, in a balcony, also complimentary. I had sailed on my 77th RCI cruise in Oct for my 65th birthday. I have so many good friends who work for the company and I love the cruise line.

Trotter said...

Hi Folks! Just a short line to say thank you and and to reply on your comments before trying to make a break during Carnaval... But not in Rio... ;)

Jen,
This was the largest cruise ship at that time; now it's the Oasis of the Seas... ;)

Lynn,
This time we had an Admiral's sea, meaning no turbulence... But on a smaller one in the Pacific, we noticed the waves... ;)

Thérèse,
It's great to be inside!!

Alice SG,
For a shopping mall, it's great... ;) But it's much better than that... ;)

Rakesh,
I thought you would love that Pirate... ;)

Eye,
It's a never ending party!!

Susu,
Incredible isn't it?

Olivier,
Ah, la belle corsaire... ça ne te passerais pas sans remarque... ;)

Diane,
One week is the minimum, probably two weeks would be enough, unless you have a different port everyday... ;)
No tripod!!

Hélène,
Ah, mais il y a la bibliotèque... simplement avec deux usuaires... ;))

Juka,
And I didn't show the spa... ;))

Lara,
That's the exact definition!!

Regina,
The great advantage of cruising: unpacking and packing just once... the hotel travels with you!! ;))
Didn't gain anything; actually we don't put a cent on that casino... ;)

Leena,
This one was built in 18 months at the Aker Finnyards drydock in Turku... The largest is now the Oasis; built at STX Europe (formerly Aker Yards)...

Lucie,
En Finlande! Il faut regarder le Oasis pour voir ce qui est grand (360 m de longueur)... Le Queen Mary II est à 345m... ;)
Il faut trouver du temps...

Neelima,
I know your kind of travel (or even better): I hitch-hiked Europe Lisbon-Stockholm-Lisbon in 1969... ;)

Gattina,
Only 3,000 it's amazing isn't it?

Ted Roth,
I still chose the cruise according to the itinerary; maybe this will change in some years time after seeing what I still miss... ;)

Cloudia,
Aloha!!

Ron,
It wasn't supposed to be a fun cruise (like Disney, for instance...), but people had lots of fun... ;)

Peter,
Cargo vessels? I had my time sleeping under a viaduct at the highway near Husqvarna in 1969... Not any more... ;))
But the Blue Lagoon, in Fiji, takes only 80 passengers maximum; superb!!

Lady,
Well, after some time it may be a bit boring, unless you have a large, well together, group... ;)

Pietro,
Maybe we should charter the Oasis of the Seas for a bloggers cruise... ;))

Kven,
There are many ways of travelling on such ships and many different prices for a cruise... Not necessarily that much... ;)

Alexander,
Great, indeed!

Constance,
Now you'll be hearing about the Oasis of the Seas... ;)

Leo,
Thanks! I think that the large pictures are ok; but when it turns to collages, they lose quality and get a bit blurred...

Mariposa,
She looks great!!

Nisha,
It's definitely time for you to start packing... ;)

Babli,
Huge indeed! It was the largest at that time; now it may look a little tiny compared to the Oasis... ;)

Pat,
Sorry, no food this time... But if you're interested, you may check here - http://blogtrotta.blogspot.com/2007/03/polynesian-party.html - for some Polynesian Party food...
No need to be retired to enjoy cruising... ;))

Rajesh,
It's an experience... But there are others at least as interesting as this one... ;))

Diederick,
Thanks for your visit and first time comment here!!
A large village indeed!!

Joyce,
Whatever you wish, provided that large, at sea... ;)

MedaM,
You definitely have to start packing... ;)

Star,
It's time to stop resisting temptations... ;)

Trotter said...

Carmen,
You haven't been but you know some people there...
77 cruises/65 years, no wonder they invite you; they should give you a free pass... ;) It's an incredible average... Do you know how many days at sea? I have more than 4,000 hours in the air... ;))
The Oasis must be incredible!!

RNSANE said...

Those 77 Royal Caribbean cruises have been in the last fifteen years! Once I started with them, I rarely sailed with anyone else. I have quite a few crew friends. The company rotates staff among their ships so no one stays on one ship usually more than a few years.

Actually, my preference is for the Radiance class ships. I found the Oasis too big. I probably would feel the same way about the Liberty and Freedom. I've been on the Navigator twice and the Mariner...the Navigator was nice because it was a transatlantic so there is plenty of time to explore the ship on those sea days.

Trotter said...

Carmen,
I liked the Navigator, but I felt that the Liberty was nicer... As for the Oasis, the design didn't look too atractive with an open air promenade in the middle of the ship, but it may work...

lv2scpbk said...

Wow! there looks to be so much to do on there. I see they had everyone try out the life vests. Hope theirs enough for all the passengers, just in case.

Trotter said...

Barb,
You won't get bored!!
There is a drill exercise nd they take it seriously: four thousand passengers on evacuation deck...
